The Overwater Wheelyboat project is an exciting new service coming to Audlem.
The Wheelyboat Project will be crewed by volunteer skippers who currently operate the sister boat service – The RNLI Audlem Lass.
This service is a non-profit making enterprise run in conjunction with The Wheelyboat Trust. It will offer an enriching life experience to disabled children and adults. The boat will provide free boat trips on the Shropshire Union canal, one of the most scenic canals in the country.
In Cheshire East, Cheshire West and North Staffordshire, there are an estimated 16,000 registered wheelchair users.
The Overwater Wheelyboat project will offer free trips to small groups of wheelchair users, disabled walkers who use sticks, walking frames or crutches as well as trips on the marina and canal for elderly and nervous passengers.
The project is supported by the Overwater Marina who have kindly agreed to donate a mooring berth and will be the operational centre for the Overwater Wheelyboat project.
Grants have already been agreed with a number of organisations but more funding is still being sought. If you are able to contribute a donation to this new and worthwhile project, please contact Rodney Cottrell on 01270 811454 or by email at rodney@kynsal.co.uk
