The South Cheshire Embroiderers' Guild May meeting enjoyed hearing speaker Suzette Smart on 'Machine Embroidery.

Suzette is a textile artist living with her family; in North Shropshire she has a passion for colour and all things stitch.

She treated us to a wonderful selection of her work all inspired by family life. Tea with her Aunty who would happily read her tealeaves, inspired the lovely lacy tea cups all created on the sewing machine with dissolvable fabric.

The wonderful story of Buster the rabbit

The giant white rabbit was found on the side of the road while taking her children in the car to school. He was put in a disused telephone box by a friend and neighbour, until she could return to pick him up.

Having no luck in finding to whom he belonged the only option was give him a name "Buster" and a home. But of course that was not the end of the story. A new piece of work emerged and the friend wrote a poem about the start of his new life:

A lovely white rabbit called Buster,
One night in a bit of a fluster,
Crept like fox,
To a telephone box
And phoned all the friends he could muster.

Suzette finished the talk showing us the wonderful machined embroidered boxes that were constructed using origami type folding requiring no further stitching other than the design areas.

So you can see how fortunate we are as a branch to have wonderful speakers each month. Why not join us. Our next meeting is on 16th June 2016 and the speaker will be Amanda Hislop. "Landlines" is the title of her talk.

We meet every third Thursday of the month except August with a full program of speakers and workshops. Please come and join us. You will be made very welcome and you don't have to be an experience embroiderer you just need to have a love of fabric and thread.

The door is open from 10:00am. As a visitor your entrance fee is just £4 which includes free tea or coffee and of course biscuits. You are allowed two visits to see if you like us enough to join.
