Ambulance response times in Shropshire are getting quicker with 75% of calls answered in 30 minutes in the Market Drayton area.

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) operations director Barry Mckinnon announced the figures at a recent meeting in Woore.

It follows concern for months at the poor response times in the Market Drayton area and in Shropshire as a whole

Mr Mckinnon told the Market Drayton Local Joint Committee that since April year there have been 124 incidents in the Market Drayton area and 75% of ambulances arrived within 30 minutes.

He added: "We are looking to reduce times and improve our services."

WMAS aims to cut the number of patients being taken to hospital when treatment was not necessary. Mr Mckinnon said emergency services had been called to an incident of someone with toothache and to stop a baby crying.

Local campaigners have been meeting with North West Ambulance Service chiefs for over four years and response times in the Audlem area by the NWAS have improved significantly in the past year or so with no reported cases of an extended wait after an emergency call.
