Older readers may remember the character Lobby Lud who visited seaside towns in the 1950s with a copy of the Daily Mirror under his arm. Any reader of the paper who also had a copy could challenge him and claim a prize of £5, a not insignificant sum at the time.

We at AoL think the time has come to introduce a more up to date version of this game and we have decided to call it "Whose foot is this?". We are offering a prize of absolutely no value whatsoever (in fact, to be honest, there is no prize at all) to anyone who successfully challenges the owner of the foot in the photograph so long as the challenger addresses him or her as Lobby Lud.

Here are a few pointers on how to achieve success at this highly enjoyable game :

1. It is believed to belong to an Audlem resident

2. With bruises like this, he or she may walk with a limp

3. Many stories abound of how the foot got so bruised. The most plausible is that it's owner, who is old enough to know better, was part of a geriatric group who recently walked the London canal network.

Good challenging!
