Audlem 2nd XI's bid to cause a shock against higher division opposition and progress into the second round of the league's Halifax Building Society Knockout Trophy came off the rails last Sunday when they were well beaten by 4th Division side, Didsbury.

In a much-changed team there were only four players who had taken part in the exciting win over Port Sunlight the day before, as youth was given its head. Didsbury won the toss and elected to bat first on a good batting wicket. Audlem got off to a good start as veteran bowlers Dave Parry (2 for 12) and Roy Wild (0 for 15) pegged back the batsmen and after their maximum eight overs each, Didsbury were 28 for 3. However, the visitors took control of the game and picked up the scoring rate, aided by fine performances from J Carley (58) and R Nwaz (59). Didsbury eventually finished on 192 for 8 off their 40 overs. Carl Palmer took 3 for 47 and "Sharky" Howard 2 for 41.

Audlem's reply never got off the ground against some good seam bowling from the visitors' opening bowlers S Owen and C McGuire. Top scorer in Audlem's reply was James Hindle with 24. Nwaz rounded off a good all-round performance by taking 3 for 24 as the home team finished well off the pace to finish on 107 all out in 36.2 overs

Ah well, there's always next season!
