The van driver who died in a collision with a milk tanker on the A529 has been named locally as 34-year-old Ben Murphy.

While AudlemOnline was made aware of his name on Monday, it has not been released officially but has now appeared in newspapers. The coroner's office in Shrewsbury has confirmed it has received news of a death under that name.

Ben Murphy, who lived in Adderley and was well known in Audlem, is believed to have worked as a gardener in the area.

The crash happened between Adderley and Market Drayton in Spoonley, at about 2pm on Monday. Mr Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the milk tanker, a 61-year-old man, was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with non-life threatening injuries.

Police have now appealed to witnesses of the crash, and say the driver of the milk lorry was travelling from Adderley towards Market Drayton, while Mr Murphy was travelling in the opposite direction.
