High Sheriff Celebrates Local Businesses

The High Sheriff of Cheshire, Sarah Callander Beckett, owner of Combermere Abbey in Shropshire, celebrates Cheshire businesses of all sizes last week at the High Sheriff's Awards for Enterprise at the Chester Racecourse as awards were presented to winners demonstrating excellence throughout the year.

The High Sheriff's Awards for Enterprise are the most prestigious Awards for business performance, and hosted 300 of Cheshire's entrepreneurs and business leaders to celebrate outstanding business achievement across private sector organisations.

The award categories saw a huge variety of outstanding business practice recognised -- with awards for Family Businesses, Innovation and Responsible Business Practice as well as Best Apprentice. The awards were hosted by 2017/18 High Sheriff of Cheshire and owner of leading Cheshire wedding venue and luxury holiday destination Combermere Abbey, Sarah Callander Beckett, and Professor Tim Wheeler, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Chester.

Urban Landscape Design scooped the overall prize, and were rewarded with an incredible prize of a place on the University of Chester's MBA programme with £10,000. Battling tough competition, many of the prizes were jointly awarded to equally deserving recipients and the awards also recognised worthy competitors with businesses Highly Commended in some categories. The county's winners included:

High Sheriff's Award for Responsible Business Practice, sponsored by Warrington Borough Council -- The Land Trust
(Highly Commended -- Laser Quantum Ltd.)

Roberts Bakery Family Award of Excellence Award -- Car Transplants UK & Overwater Marina
(Highly Commended -- C&C Catering Equipment Ltd.)

Micro Enterprise Award -- Chestnut Meats

Cheshire Business Exporter of the Year, sponsored by Click Consult and West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce -- Heat Trace Ltd.

Cheshire Business Leaders Award for the Cheshire and Warrington Entrepreneur of the Year -- Dr Samantha Westgate, Perfectus Biomed Ltd.

Cheshire Business Leaders Award for the Outstanding Cheshire and Warrington Business Leader -- Dave Maisey, Managing Director at ICC Solutions Ltd.

Best Apprentice Award -- Charlotte Thompson, Rock Chemicals Ltd. & Jordan Ireland, Harry Fairclough Construction

Professor Phil Harris, Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Awards, comments: "The High Sheriff of Cheshire Enterprise Awards are now in their 12th year and celebrate the wonderful businesses in the Cheshire, Warrington and Halton economy."

The evening also played host to guest speaker Dr Sandeep Ranote, who spoke about her work as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist leading young people's eating disorder services and as Director of Clinical Networks at North West Boroughs NHS Foundation Trust.

Celebrating the wealth of opportunity and variety of enterprises from the more rural south to the enterprise and science corridors of the north is so important.
