With the Big Switch On coming up on Thursday evening, ADAS asked for a poem to be written to celebrate Christmas in Audlem. David Basford duly obliged.

Christmas in Audlem

Audlem is the place to be
Now that Christmas is coming.
The townsfolk are in Festive mood,
The town is really humming.

The Christmas tree is in the Square,
Bedecked with fairy lights.
They really lift ones spirits up
On dark December nights.

The many shops in this old town
Cater for every need
Of the many busy housewives
Who have families to feed.

The lovely pubs about the town
Exude a Christmas air.
With local beers, and finest wines
And Festive Christmas Fayre.

St James' Church will be a draw
For all, on Christmas eve,
To celebrate the nativity
For all those who believe.

There's no doubt that Santa will come
Down chimneys he will fall.
With presents by the sackfull
For the children, one and all.

So, even in these straitened times
That now beset the nation,
Forget your worries for a while:
ENJOY THE CELEBRATION
