The webteam met today and discussed again how best to handle Chatbox complaints against individual local businesses.

We have posted a number of comments by customers sent us praising Indian Dreams. Equally, we have a policy not to publish complaints about local restaurants, pubs etc – see our Code of Conduct – particularly as many Chatbox contributions are sent without an email address or real name.

In future, in the interests of balance, we will also refrain from publishing posts lavishing praise on a particular establishment as well as those complaining. In the view of the webteam, complaints are better dealt with between the establishment and customer, rather than in public on Audlem Online.

We will continue to publish factual information about local businesses – opening and closing, products on sale, etc – but not individual comments about the quality or otherwise of these services.

We at Audlem Online understand the interest these comments can generate but can find no satisfactory way to moderate them fairly. We are not prepared to risk publishing every comment that comes in, particularly when many are anonymous.

We expect this will create another 'censorship discussion' but, as they say, you cannot please all the people all of the time.
