Broomhall and Sound Methodist Church (soon to be renamed Broomhall and Sound Community Church) are to have a weekend of celebrating the opening of their new Church and Community Annexe.

The work has involved a great deal of planning, fund raising, and physical building by members following the first digging of the sod by Stephen O'Brien last March.

The celebration weekend will include a Flower Festival, Opening ceremony at which Antoinette Sandbach our Eddisbury MP and Local Councillor Rachel Bailey will be present, and Harvest Festival.

The new centre will be an annexe to the existing Broomhall and Sound Methodist Chapel which was built in 1838.

The annexe comprises a community room, entrance lobby, utility and store rooms together with new toilets meeting disability regulations.

The area is essentially a rural/farming area where the present chapel is the only community facility available. It is hoped that the new centre will provide the additional space and improved facilities which will strengthen the sense of local community spirit.

At present the small chapel meeting room has been used for various activities as detailed below but due to its size is very restrictive on numbers and with the lack of disabled facilities prevents certain members of the community from joining in:-

  • Saturday morning coffee stop
  • Summer club for young children – this is restricted to 12 due to the small space
  • Flower arranging classes
  • Art classes
  • Luncheon club providing hot meals for older members of the community

Now the community annexe is completed it is hoped that a youth club will be set up and the local police support officer has expressed his desire to assist in this. In addition the local doctors' medical centre has stated this additional accommodation would allow them to run mother and toddlers' groups, carer support meetings, etc.

The fund raising for this annexe has taken several forms. Quiz nights have been held, garden parties and flower festivals to name but a few. We have been very fortunate in being able to obtain the following funding from other sources:

  • Wren £49,389
  • Methodist Church Council £40,000
  • Wrenbury Consolidated Charities £750
  • Cheshire East Council £3,000
  • Cheshire Community Foundation £2,500

The total amount required is estimated at £125,000.
