All carers' are invited to come along to our next Audlem Carers' Support Group meeting on Tuesday, 24th June between 10am and 12noon at the Lord Combermere in the Square in Audlem to hear a talk on the important topic of Lasting Power of Attorney.
We are fortunate in having Gwen Hands from the Citizen's Advice Bureau and her team coming to tell us about the important new legal measures introduced by the 2005 Mental Capacity Act which extended the Power of Attorney to encompass a person's health and personal welfare. The talk will start at 10.30am
The Mental Capacity Act 2005 introduced a new type of power of attorney that replaced the Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA). It is known as a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) and helps families plan for the future.
An LPA is a legal document. This allows people to choose someone who can make decisions about their health and welfare, as well as their finances and property, if they become unable to do so for themselves. The 'attorney' is the person chosen to make decisions on their behalf.
There are two types of LPA:
