Good morning, Herewith report and attached photographs for Audlem Canal & River Trust Towpath Taskforce event, which took place on Saturday the 17th of September.
Making best use of good weather, it was back to completing lock painting, with a full repaint and refresh of Lock 6 on the flight. This completes the painting task for this year and the complete painting of the Lock gates at Audlem for the 3rd time over the last three years and summers.
To note, the volunteers experienced a visitor-busy weekend, during the event two of the team needed to break away from the task and assist a narrowboat down the lock flight that had suffered accidental damage at Adderley with a damaged rudder. The team hand-pulled the boat down the flight and got the boat moored up safely, full assistance to the customer was given to ensure his safety and comfort.
The work completed:
As you may know I have stood down from volunteering for Canal & River Trust, and leading the team on Saturday with the taskforce was my last day volunteering for the Trust.
I started early on Saturday with litter picking and lock keeping, helping several single handed boaters both up and down the flight, in the same way as when I started back in July/September 2010. It has been an absolute pleasure to volunteer on the canals and at Audlem with no less than 5000 hours, 250 projects and 12,000 lock operations completed.
Farewell, best wishes and kind regards, Dek Owen(Former) Volunteer (Task Leader)Canal & River Trust 07771 831340 Dek.Owen@networkrail.co.uk
Ed : Once again we thank Dek and team for the great work they have been doing and would particularly wish Dek our best wishes for the future.
