Good morning all, the Canal & River Trust volunteer lock keepers / lock rangers met as normal in their covered accommodation for April's task force day.

This morning a total of 8 volunteers were greeted by their 'Volunteer Team Leader Ange' who updated the team with the day's programme of work.

After the 'Safety Brief' for the days various activities had been delivered the team initially split into two groups.

  • One group working just above the top of lock gate 12, removing a quantity of 'fly tipping' deposited onto the raised grass bank area, all now removed to the Canal & River Trust waste and recycling area for contractor removal.
  • The other group had moved down to the lock 14 area, clearing the lock quadrants, redressing the canal tow path, cutting back brambles and painting the lock gates.

Again as normal we were called back to the covered accommodation at lunch time to be greeted with hot drinks and hot bacon rolls 'all prepared by our resident chef'.

As always 'thank you Robbo'.

In all a great day with the weather on our side we achieved a great deal.

Our next planned task force day will be on Friday May 10th with a 10am start.

Report ends.
