Many will have noticed the red and white tapes cordoning off the Buttermarket for the last few days. The following statement about the potential problems with the Buttermarket structure has been issued by the Parish Council
At last Monday's Parish Council meeting councillors were concerned to hear that there were health and safety issues surrounding the Butttermarket as a crack was reported in at least one of the pillars.
As a precaution, on the advice of a structural engineer, the Buttermarket has been cordoned off. It is believed that there is no immediate danger as long as everyone stays out of the marked area – so please do so.
The structural engineer will be examining the whole building this week and, on receipt of his report, work will commence to carry out repairs. At this stage we don't know how long the job will take, but when we do know we will send out an update.
Apologies that this means people waiting for buses cannot use the seats under the Buttermarket, but safety must come first.
