Bunbury Watermill will be open with a difference during the National Mills Open Weekend of 9th-10th May.

The South Cheshire Amateur Radio Society (SCARS) will be setting up a temporary short-wave radio station, call sign GB4BM, and communicating with the many other temporary stations to be set up in historic mills throughout the country.

The radio station will operate in the Visitor Centre from 10.00am to 5.00pm, and the mill itself will be open to visitors from 1.00pm to 5.00pm each day. Light refreshments will be available from 1.00pm to 5.00pm.

So as well as seeing Bunbury's unique 19th century watermill at work and perhaps indulging in a nice cake and a cup of tea, visitors will be able to gain a fascinating insight into the world of 'ham radio'.

Bunbury Mill is a grade 2 listed watermill which stands on the edge of Bunbury Village and is close to the A51 Road.

There has been a mill on the present site since at least Norman times. The present Mill was constructed in 1840. Most of the machinery is original, and visitors are shown the whole production process, finishing with the production of fine flour which is on sale in the visitor centre..

Ownership is in the hands of Bunbury Watermill Trust Reg, Charity number 113748, and managing and operating the Mill is entirely by volunteers.

Emphasis is placed on the heritage value of the site and the wide variety of plants and wildlife to be found there.

The mill is open to public viewing at times published on the website www.bunburymill.com and to visiting groups at any reasonable time. Refreshments are available at the Visitor Centre on site.
