This has to be one of the most difficult press releases that any head teacher can be asked to write and I do not want the surreal and unique circumstances that we find ourselves in to detract from the fact that the Year 13 students of Brine Leas School are amazing, inspirational and brilliant in equal measure.
Over 150 Year 13 students have received their final A-Level and BTEC grades, known as "Calculated Grades" and if these were 'normal times' then I would be quoting how these are the best results ever achieved, but these are not 'normal times' and these are not 'normal grades'.
There is such mixed emotion flying around with regard to these grades, in all schools nationally. With the cancellation of all exams this summer, students across the country have received grades based on a series of calculations made by the examination boards. As agreed with all other head teachers in Cheshire East, we will not be releasing headline measures this year, suffice to say we are celebrating amazing outcomes and progression routes for our students.
Head Teacher, Mr David Cole said: "This year group is very special for so many reasons. Today, they have been awarded an amazing set of qualifications. They have lived through extra-ordinary times and despite a global pandemic, they will go on to achieve in further studies and careers.
"This year group has consistently performed in every aspect of their studies and school life and we are very proud of them. They have been an inspiration for us all here at Brine Leas School and as they now progress on to the next chapters in their lives, I just wanted to say directly to them...you truly are an inspirational group of young people who will go on to do brilliant and amazing things.
"Please remember what I said in that last assembly to you back in March... be kind, continue learning, show everyone how good you are and be a good citizen. Do not be defined by the situation that you find yourself in.
