At its meeting last night, Audlem Parish Council voted to oppose the outline planning application to provide access and build 21 dwellings on land adjacent to Bird's Nest, Audlem Road. The site is opposite the field where Gladman Developments Ltd already have permission to build 120 houses.

Reasons for voting against came broadly under two headings: non-compliance with Audlem's emerging Neighbourhood Plan and general planning issues.

Councillors heard that the application does not comply with the emerging Neighbourhood Plan on a number of issues. These are: the number of houses already having planning approval; the scale of the new development; the mix of homes; the lack of communal green space and failure to fully meet the need for more affordable housing.

Councillors were also reminded that the situation has not changed from the time of the recent Gladman and Hockenhull applications to build large numbers of houses outside the village's settlement boundary. The issues are still: growing concerns about traffic; the inability of the surgery to take on new patients because its books are full; poor public transport; the lack of local employment and the creaking sewerage infrastructure.

Residents are urged to write in to Cheshire East Council to express their views on this latest application, either for or against.

You can do this by contacting Cheshire East here and completing the form online by clicking on the heading under "Available Actions" on the right. Alternatively, write to: Mared Rees, Case Officer, Development Management, PO Box 606, Municipal Buildings, Crewe, Cheshire CW1 9HP, quoting reference 15/3257N.
