Birds go wild for local feed

It appears it's not just local people who can gain from shopping locally – wild birds go for local products too. A member of the webteam reports that birdseed bought from the Village Feeds in the Square has been attracting a wide range of birds – as well as all the normal garden bird species, less usual birds such as brambling, treecreeper, nuthatch and fieldfare have been in the garden regularly in recent weeks.

This weekend, not having had a chance to visit Village Feeds to replenish stocks, while on a visit to a national DIY chain in Nantwich, an emergency pack of branded wild bird seed was bought to use over the weekend. Incredibly, every species turned up its beak at the new offering. Several nuthatches landed, tasted and were off immediately. The same happened all day with the result that the feed, a well-known branded product, has been left virtually untouched.

Yesterday, there was a chance to replenish stocks at Village Feeds and the tale was told to proprietor Alan Brown. Locally bought seed is now back in the garden and the normal range of birds have started to flock back in good appetite.

A strange tale but true – clearly local is best as far as Audlem's birds are concerned.
