Over the last 2 days, Audlem Online has given details of the judges' comments in the recent 'Best Kept Village' competition which Audlem won with a 95% rating. We continue today with the comments about the Church, open spaces and playing field. Check out the earlier comments in the news stories carried on Tuesday and yesterday.

"St James' churchyard is well maintained and on going into the church we experienced further evidence, from the local people working there that day, of a sense of pride not only associated with the church but of the community in which they live.

"All three village green/open spaces reflected a high degree of care and attention, in particular we were impressed by the area by the stream at the bottom of Vicarage Lane. Although a small area, it is well furnished with seats, a picnic table, litter bins and a dog fouling bin strategically placed at the start of a local walk. We were impressed that the area around the stream had been left in a natural state to encourage wildlife.

"The playing field is well maintained and litter free, although we did notice some litter around the circular meeting place on one visit. The tennis courts were always in use and this applied to the children's playground as well which is not only inviting for the children but there are tables and seats for adults and thus facilities to enjoy a picnic – as families were doing so when we visited."

Tomorrow, Audlem Online will continue this report with the judges' comments on gardens and floral displays.
