AWEG trip to Conwy

Last Friday, eight members of AWEG, the Audlem Wildlife & Ecology Group, went to the RSPB Reserve on the Conwy River.

The expedition was led by local resident John Vickers who is a regular volunteer worker at the site. The Audlem visit was timed for high tide when many of the waders from the river move on to the large lakes that make up much of the reserve.

The group saw many species of duck, waders and heron including snipe and little egrets before retiring for a pleasant lunch at the reserve's cafe.

The only notable bird listed as visiting the reserve that day the group failed to spot was the relatively rare Firecrest. Given, however, that the reserve is large and the Firecrest only 9cm (3.5in) long, there was an excuse!
