Members of Audlem W.I. enjoyed the sunshine at the Cheshire Show at Tabley on June 17th and 18th. The refreshment tent at the W.I. marquee is always extremely popular and four of the Audlem ladies made cakes for the afternoon tea.
The W.I. always asks for volunteers to be stewards looking after the impressive entries in the craft, creative arts, photography, cookery and flower arranging classes and Audlem provided four willing helpers as well as one volunteer to help with refreshments.
The combined class entry in the show had the theme "Here Comes Summer" and the Audlem ladies entered a display called "Afternoon Tea in the Sun". Strawberry cakes, scones and apricot jam were presented on bone china rose patterned tea plates and a doll in pretty knitted dress and sun hat sat at a table on the grass surrounded by plant pots full of cakes with icing flowers. A sun umbrella decorated with beautiful tatting flowers and a very elegant lace table cloth set off the whole display beautifully.
Unfortunately we didn't win any awards but felt we had made a good effort against exceptional competition. As it was the first time entering we enjoyed taking part and know a little more what to do next time.
