At a time when musicians descend on the village from near and far to take part in the brilliant Music Festival, it is heartwarming that the organisers find space in the programme for very local talent. On the first evening for goodness knows how long, when it was warmer inside than out, Audlem Voices displayed their wide repertoire of musical numbers in a concert in St James Church attended by a very good turnout of locals and visitors.
Under the baton of their charismatic Musical Director Jenny Collis Smith, they sang material ranging from opera to musical theatre, including a most unusual vocal arrangement of the William Tell Overture.
As is well known, Jenny is very fond of music by a certain Mr Rutter so a couple of his pieces somehow found their way into the programme including a rousing version of "When the Saints Go Marching In" to round off the evening.
