Audlem is to be represented on the body that is being formed to steer the creation of the new Cheshire East Council. Subject to approval by Parliament, the new council will come into being in April 2009.

Allan Richardson, who is Audlem's county councillor, is one of six councillors who have been nominated by Cheshire County Council to be on the Cheshire East Joint Committee. There will be fifteen councillors on the Joint Committee, six from the County and three from each of the constituent boroughs of Crewe and Nantwich, Congleton and Macclesfield.

As Allan Richardson is also Audlem's borough councillor, in effect Audlem will have two voices on the committee.

Elections for the new council will take place on May 1st. Each ward will have three councillors, which in Audlem's case means one more councillor than at present. Those elected will form a shadow council which will take over responsibility from the Joint Committee a few days after the election.
