On another sweltering hot day at Gorse Croft Audlem's cricketers entertained their counterparts from Caverswall CC. The guests had obviously come seeking revenge for their opening game defeat to the Audlem lads as their team was much changed from the return fixture and within their ranks were four regular first teamers who play in the second tier of the NSSCCL.
On winning the toss the Caverswall skipper had no hesitation in batting and it soon started to pay dividends as opening batsman Jake Edge stroked his way to a classy 75 ably supported by his team mates to post a total of 234 all out off 38.3 overs. The pick of the Audlem bowlers was Charlie Hine who finished with creditable figures of 31 for 3 off 7 overs
Audlem gave the run chase a good go but ultimately fell short in their quest to finish on 190 all out in 36 overs. Six batsmen reached double figures but none could go on and score a match winning total with the honours of top scorer going to young Reg Farnell with a fine 36.
Audlem pocketed 10 points from the game to maintain second spot in the league table albeit a distance behind run away leaders Moddershall. Tomorrow (Sunday) Audlem travel to Eccleshall (2:30pm start).
