Audlem came out with a 'winning draw' from their pulsating encounter against a talented Leek team who refused to give up hope of forcing a victory until the penultimate over of the game when they had to revert to staving off imminent defeat with their last two batsmen at the crease.
Audlem's skipper, Shenton again called correct ( much to the relief of his team mates ) at the coin ceremony and chose to bat on a lovely sunny afternoon.
His decision was soon vindicated as the strong Audlem batting line up proceeded to rack up the runs on a lightening fast outfield.
Chris Shenton was the first of three batsmen to reach his half century milestone (57) whilst the other two soon followed with both Ronnie Farnell (75) & Atiq Hashmi (63 not out) continuing their fine run of form with the bat. The score at the close of the
innings was a daunting 253 for 6.
Leek to their credit set about the task with gusto scoring at over a run per ball to keep them in the game. Even when wickets began to fall they kept their momentum but eventually had to call time at the very end as Audlem's attack gained the upper hand.
All of Audlem's seven strong attack kept their discipline on a difficult day for the bowlers.
Audlem gained 13 points and Leek 8 from the game but the winner on the day was the game of cricket.
Bowling Reg Farnell 38 for 2. Jamie Roberts 31 for 1. Charlie Hine 38 for 2. Rob Mottershead 28 for 2. Ron Farnell 34 for 1
