Audlem school children embrace self care

Audlem St James C.E. Primary School has become the first in South Cheshire to be recognised for their hard work, teaching children, staff and parents key health and wellbeing messages. They are the first school to be awarded a Bronze Self Care Award by NHS South Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS Vale Royal CCG as they continue their journey to help improve health and wellbeing.

Pupils have been learning about the best ways to stay 'Sunsafe' during school and at home, finding out about UV readings and the best methods of self care to take during the summer weather.

Noreen Caldwell, Public Engagement and Involvement Manager at the CCGs, said: "I've been amazed by the way that both the teachers and pupils have embraced our self care messages and have been putting them into practice. "

Rebecca Jewitt, Headteacher at Audlem St James C.E. Primary School, said: "We are delighted to be awarded the Bronze Self Care Award in recognition of our partnership work with children, families and staff to promote lifelong sun safety skills.

"Working with Sunsafe Schools resources, we have aimed to ensure that from Mid-Day Assistants to Office and Teaching Staff the message has been the same: follow the 5 S's of Sun Safety: SLIP, SLOP, SLAP, SLIDE and SHADE and, as a result, our pupils are knowledgeable about how to be Sun Smart and look after themselves in the wonderful summer weather we have all been enjoying recently.

"We look forward to working with NHS South Cheshire CCG towards our Silver and Gold Self Care Awards in the future."
