Audlem Saints U9s have added Cup winners medals to the League Champions medals already won!

Having advanced through the group stages, Saints played the knockout quarter final, semi final and final today, Sunday. The quarter final versus Crewe Terriers United was a decent game but Saints were just too powerful and advanced by a 4-0 margin.

The semi final promised to be a tough and tense game, being against the League runners up Boca Juniors. As always in games between these two sides, the play was pretty evenly matched and it took just a single goal to separate the teams. A mazy dribble from the Audlem striker ended with a crossed ball which was handled by a Boca defender. With the score at 0-0 in a semi final and with just 2 minutes left to play, volunteers to take the kick were understandably pretty sparse! However, "cometh the hour, cometh the man" and the Saints centre half stepped forward and declared "I'll have it!". As all looked on in nervous anticipation, he kept a clear head and smashed his penalty kick home. The remaining time was played out. And so Audlem reached the final versus Red Dot United, another very capable team.

The final saw Audlem play their best football of the day with plenty of passing and movement. Two well taken efforts, one in each half, secured the game 2-0. Audlem Saints were presented with a splendid cup by Steve Holland, Crewe Alexandra manager. He commented that the maturity and confidence on the ball of the Audlem players was fantastic to see.

Saints won the cup by winning 6 games in which they did not concede a single goal. Well done to all – it's cricket, tennis and cycling now until September, when the team will return as Audlem Saints Under 10s!
