Audlem Saints kick off new season in style

Having finished last season in the runners up position, Audlem Saints U8s gathered yesterday to kick off the new season. They certainly did it in style, running out 5-1 victors in a super first match. The opposition was provided by Bocca Juniors- spelt with two "c"s to differentiate them from their South American namesakes!

Audlem started much the brighter, benefiting from experience against a newly formed team. Sensible, controlled passing created lots of chances without scoring until a fabulous cross into the box was headed home.The first period ended with Audlem in a deserved 1-0 lead.

The second period was action packed and Audlem Saints continued to create lots of chances. The pressure told and Audlem Saints were awarded two penalties, each put away comfortably. A fine individual effort by one of Saints new players put them 4-0 to the good. A slight lapse in concentration allowed Bocca a goal and so the second period ended with Audlem Saints 4-1 ahead.

The final period saw Bocca grow in confidence and create a couple of half chances without success. Audlem scored what proved to be the final goal from a well taken corner. The super cross was met with force by an Audlem defender on a rare foray up front and his header nearly broke the net!

Happy faces all round and a 5-1 victory to savour. The collective team effort is aptly illustrated by the fact that each of the five goals came from a different Audlem player. Well done lads!!!
