Audlem resident John Owen appeared in an interesting BBC documentary last week. The hour long programme entitled 'Shooting the war' will be broadcast again at 7:30pm on Monday for anyone who missed it. It is also available to watch free on the BBC iPlayer.

The documentary focuses on the experience of children during the war, seen through the films of them shot by parents, friends and teachers. The films, and the recollections of the children in them, capture the initial novelty of war, but also the later reality of death and loss.

John was approached by the BBC because he recovered war time film footage of the pupils of Elworth School, Sandbach which had been taken by the Headmaster. He appears on the film in an air raid shelter sequence and was interviewed about his memories & experiences.
