Many thousands of visitors to the fabulous Nantwich Food Festival this past weekend received maps publicising the Weaver Way. Distributed by Visit Chester & Cheshire, the map details the attractions on the long-distance route from Audlem to Frodsham right across Cheshire.

The introduction to the Weaver Way says: "On your journey visit some of Cheshire's most picturesque and fascinating towns and villages. Enjoy a canalside drink and bite to eat in pretty Audlem..." First in the list of the county's attractions – a heady position, thanks to the new Weaver Way!

The map promotes Audlem in some detail. It says: "Deep in the leafy south Cheshire countryside, Audlem is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Rich in waterways' heritage, ancient buildings and excellent places to eat and drink, this is a village much praised for its civic pride."

The brochure goes on to list St James' Church; the village's pubs; the Shropshire Union canal with its fifteen locks; Audlem Mill Canal Shop and the many village events as reasons to visit.

The brochure, and Audlem's role as the southern gateway to the Weaver Way, should help attract many visitors, vital for so many village businesses. Audlem's lengthy appearance on BBC1 TV last Wednesday showed how quickly publicity can attract people. Shortly after the broadcast, several visitors from the north of Cheshire said they driven down as Audlem looked so attractive. We are told they shopped in the village and stayed for lunch.
