We must apologise to all our frustrated readers that the website was off the air from late last evening until about midday today. This was due to a change in website registration rules which caught us unaware.
The tortuous logic of the situation meant that the website provider removed audlem.org (and all its subsites like the history archive, the PC and so on) from its various lists of addresses, and then proceeded to send e-mails to audlem.org to tell us that it had done this, but we didn't get the messages because the site address had been disabled.... and so on round a never-ending loop.
However, it has now been sorted, the relevant boxes ticked etc etc.
Individual users may have found that they were not back online until some time after midday. Apparently the information that audlem.org is up again has to be sent individually to a wide variety of ISPs so that when the service actually returned for you will have depended on when that notification was actioned.
Tim Berners-Lee, eat your heart out – it was never meant to be like this!
It is possible that e-mails sent to editor@audlem.org during this period have never reached us – if you get no response to such an e-mail in the next day or two, please send it again if you can.
