Anyone taking a stroll northwards along the canal towpath yesterday would have been delighted to see not one but both of the local boats that provide a welcome public service from Audlem and the Overwater Marina.

As thousands know, Audlem Lass runs between Lock 15 and the marina every weekend and Bank Holiday from April to the end of October, normally carrying 4,000 or more passengers a year as she raises funds for the RNLI. Audlem Lass has been in service now for five seasons.

New this year is the Wheelyboat. AudlemOnline has a story about this service which started this summer in a brand new boat designed to accommodate wheelchair users with a newly built dock ay Overwater Marina.

It wasn't a race yesterday, we promise you, but an impressive sight as the two boats motored along at a stately 2.2 knots (or so we were told by Wheelyboat skipper Rod Cottrell).
