Audlem taster days for on-call firefighter recruitment

Do you want to find out what it takes to be a firefighter?

Fire Chiefs are inviting anyone who wants to see if they've got what it takes to come along to one of two taster events at Audlem's Shropshire Street fire station.

The Service is recruiting on-call firefighters and the taster events give people the opportunity to meet crews as well as training and recruitment officers who will explain exactly how to follow the recruitment process.

Potential recruits will also be able to try out the physical tests in the recruitment pod, one of only three bespoke test units in the UK, housing the elements needed for the national firefighter recruitment tests.

The taster days are on:

  • Tuesday 13th October between 5pm and 8pm
  • Saturday 17th October between 10am and 2pm

The Service is looking for enthusiastic individuals with common sense, the ability to work as part of a team and able to deal with physically and emotionally demanding situations. Qualifications aren't necessary, applicants just need to be at least 18 years old and physically and medically fit with good hearing and eyesight.

Potential recruits also need to live or work close to the fire station and have a real interest in the fire and rescue service and helping in the community.

Service Delivery Manager for Cheshire East, Lee Shears, said: "We're looking for committed men and women to be part of our on-call crews at Audlem Fire Station. "Successful applicants will be helping to provide the best possible service to their community and will be trained to national firefighter standard.

"We're looking for people from all walks of life with a combination of practical ability, mental resilience, courage, physical fitness and the ability to remain calm and focused in emergency and difficult situations."

Anyone interested in attending doesn't have to be at the station for the whole of the published times but should allow an hour to an hour and a half to get the best out of the event.

Although it is possible to just turn up on the day, people are asked to register their arrival time in advance if they can.
