Match report 2/04/2018

Yesterday I lit my fire in my lounge . A thing I had hoped I had put to bed , as we had been tricked into a touch of warmth.

Last Monday we had brilliant sunshine and 14 c temperature. Now to 4 c !! Camelia's will suffer the chill. Such contrasts -- but that is what one gets from living on an island .

And out come my long johns again as I prepare for our match versus Barrel and Tap team.
Cold morning , and with the pressure of Easter Sunday and the chocolate eggs etc, it means we have a slender team turning out.

All overcast by the horrendous accident that hit our captain, Pete Jones, last Sunday. I give here a photo of him in action and one of his broken leg encased in a weighted cradle under tension- aiming to get the bones to heal directly in line . Pete may have to be transferred to Liverpool for more specialist treatment . The ambulance took all of 80 minutes to get to theplaying field as Pete lay there in agony . All our thoughts are with him and his fortitude .

KICK OFF

The game today . Referee Jem Cornes .
Kick off early as both sides ready to go . Fingers crossed that we will get a good game today .
B and T are a strong team so it will be a good test for us . But our year to date has not been very good.

We have 13 men turn out. Last minute call for Mark Parker to tell us his wife is unwell means we lose a good goal scorer.
In our squad we have three men over 40 years of age. So -- a test of stamina ahead.

Sun here but still cold air . No wind at all. Pitch in good order and well drained . Jonathan Taylor -- part of my Music Festival team here in the
tennis courts having a knock up with his children.

Bells of St james as always such a warming sound. I recall the day when a fellow who had moved into the village and into a flat near to the church, complaining of the bells. He left! Did not realise a church has bells!

Ross Henderson back after 8 weeks away with a broken hand . So hope he does not damage it .
Play a good 50/50 as we play well.
1105
A great fingertip save by Connor Baxter . Saved a sure goal. Scramble in our goal mouth but saved again by Connor at the feet of an attacker. Very brave.
1135
Still no score
1144.
A shot from B and T , diverted by us into our own goal!!!
0-1 What a way to go in as the whistle sees the end of the first half. Not good for spirits .

SECOND HALF

Car park now very full as I walk back from the Farm Made cafe with my coffee to go. Easter Sunday effect.
1150
0-2 a so , so stupid easy goal.
1155 foul by us results in a fracas as handbags figuratively swung. . Ref breaks it up and awards B & T a penalty . Daft on our part
0-3
1205
0-4
We are falling apart. So often do we fade in the second half. I wonder to my self who it was who first said " it was a game of two halves"
James Bebbibngton off with a nasty scrape on his upper thigh, On comes Alan Brindley for his first outing this year.
1220
0-5
Words fail me. They virtually walked it into our goal. Defence put to the sword .
1-5 .
A great shot by Mo Haroon is met by Andrew "Beco" Betteley and he puts it away. A chance ?.
1228
1-6.
Slaughter complete. As we concede yet another penalty . B and T march up the tables as we slide down!!
I must make comment on the high level of foul language by our opponents . So unnecessary .
1235.
Superb ball from Kev Rodgers and again Beco meets it and scores . If Beco
gets the feed he can score!!! A top scorer of our team now for many seasons
2-6

End of game.
Man of the Match is Kev Mort who truly had a very good game .

Next game is away versus White Eagles -- the Polish team of Crewe -- on the 8th .
Ralph Warburton
AFC
By the way . My car , suffered a broken spring from one too many pot holes .
