Just musing here in the early hours before match of the day on BBC . I recall the time when I was learning to drive in a dark wet Liverpool and on winters nights. Learning most on a simulator then, with very little time in the streets of the very dark city.
It was in Ranelagh Street just by the huge Lewis's store. I had bought my very first car -- an Austin A 30 . One that I later overturned in haste trying to get my Joan back to college before the deadline of 2400.
In those days of learning, I became well used to night driving and enjoyed it . But now, with those hard very dazzling white headlights ,I find it a chore -- and a danger too.

Enough – To the game.

A cool morning as we all arrive at the Annexe. Check the rooms for our visitors and the referee. All clean and ready for action.
Fill a bucket with water and cleaner so as to be ready after the match for the mop down .
Calm day , with the glorious bells of St James ringing out. Referee today is Jason Croft -- a form referee who plays by the book but with some humanity .

1055 – and off we go. Our opponents are Haslington F C .
Our kit showing signs of wear -- especially in the numbers. A new kit planned for next season at a cost of circa £600. I am delighted to say that we have two sponsors who will meet most of the cost for us. The Lord Combermere and Finefoodies Deli.
On this subject , I note that the builders ANWYL have paid for a kit at Brine Leas School. Good community thinking on their part

The match
Early play very scrappy as each side tests each other. As is the norm now we play roll on roll off subs up to 6 subs. Today we have 14 players to call on. Haslington have no subs .
Play halted as a mess of dog poo found on the pitch. When will those inconsiderate dog owners clean up their own mess.
Play continues in a very ragged fashion , but with HFC a tad on top. Some of our players suffering from bad heads.
First corner goes to HFC.
No gain

1115. Attack on our goal produces very close shot which is the subject of our own version of VAR. A shout that it was no goal as Connor dives on it on the line. Effective as Ref rules no goal.

1120
Great shot by Mark Parker but well saved
Free kick given away by Bebbo. But no gain for them.
More pressure on our goal as Connor saves again.

1125
They score! Such a stupid sloppy goal gifted to them
0-1!!
1135
1st corner to us . No gain
We win a free kick on the edge of their area. But again no gain

HALF TIME

Ross Williams -- new signing -- goes in goal as planned . Connor Baxter off
Kev Mort on and Pete Jones off as his hamstring tightens

1155
HFC score. What a mess our defence was . A rabble .
0-2
James Bebbington off and Brad Tucker on
Watching this such poor play by us makes me very low. After all we know we can do as witness our higher position in the league table
89th Minute of the game and HFC score yet again
0-3.
A day to be forgotten . Hopefully the Alka-Seltzer will be stronger next Sunday .

Man of the Match as chosen by HFC is Danny Mahoney. A very good choice as he bent virtually every blade of grass in his play. Would be interesting to have him wear a pace counter device to see just how much ground he covers.

A rag , tag and bob tail of a performance by Audlem F C . Very poor -- but no good crying over spilt milk and to move forward . We play at home again versus the White Eagles -- so well named for a team of mostly Polish players from Crewe. No easy push over though e vdid beat them 5-4 last month in a match that became a "friendly" after the referee refused to play as it was a tad frosty.
