The team yesterday faced their last match of the season, a game against the top of the league team, Scholar Green. Played at Kidsgrove on a reasonable pitch. Our manager, Geoff Stretch had a good number from which to choose the starting eleven.

It was Geoff's birthday so all had agreed that he could leave at half time for a celebratory meal with his family.

An agreement reached with our referee and Scholar Green team that we would play rolling subs was made so that all would get a kick.

Today's match ball was kindly sponsored by Tony Crowther of TC Tours of Audlem for which we are most grateful.

First half

Perfect sunny weather and soon Audlem was ahead by a goal scored superbly with a fine header by skipper Kev Mort. So 1-0 to us. Then they equalised. 1-1.

Fierce fast game and a goal by Sam O'Hara. 2-1 to us.

Second half

Again fast and furious. Mike Gibbon suffers an injury . They equalise 2 -2, aAnd attack after attack by this top of the league team results in them being ahead at 3-2.

But no heads went down as Audlem played their best game for some weeks. At the very death a full scramble at their goal mouth and Gaz Jones fires in a great header. Game over at 3-3.

Fantastic result for our very last game in this Cheshire Borders League as we seek to play in the Crewe league next season.

Audlem FC AGM

It will be a very upbeat meeting for our AGM on the 7th of June at the home of our main sponsor, The Lord Combermere.
