Sunday 31st. January.

The second game in the year. Yes. The second game – for Neptune and his entourage have conspired to rain and flood us out of any play.

As I worked as barman at the annual Panto, my heavy cold got worse so that by the time Friday night arrived, I was useless, with sneezing, coughing as though my innards would be spilled on the floor. And pain from the retching. Suffice to say, I had to go to Geoff to admit I would not be fit to:

  • A: go to the match at Wistaston in the Presidents cup, second round. and
  • B: carry on as barman for the final night session of the Panto.

Olive treated me with her pills and a very welcome cup of tea, as Geoff stepped forward to take on the role as barman in my stead.

I felt so guilty in letting down folks this way, but I was unwell. And now after a night of coughing constantly, I feel lousy still. Running a temperature and yet feeling cold.

The Match

The football was a game versus a top of the table team, and given the fact that we had but a scratch team of players once again. So many not putting themselves forward and of some who are on Army manoeuvres abroad. No goalkeeper!

Commentary.

I call Geoff as he arrives back from the pitch.
Team. Just 11 plus an injured sub. Out top scorer Andrew "Beco" Betelley has to go into the goal as he does have some skills in that.

In spite of this scratch team, we do quite well in that we lose, yes – but not a trashing.
Score 4.0 to our opponents. So we are out of that cup.

And on a miserable grey damp day. A wet sugar bag sky!
So I feel a tad cheered up in my discomfort. Eyes like hot coals. Joints aching – sneezing for England.

Back to normal soon, I hope.
