Audlem's cricketers suffered back to back defeats in their latest round of fixtures last weekend. The Saturday team had a 7 wicket reverse at the hands of their visitors from Kidsgrove and saw them lose ground on the race for promotion whilst the Sunday X1 were well beaten by Middlewich.

Saturday July 17th

On Saturday Audlem won the toss and decided to bat hoping to set a decent total and wear the opposition down in the trying conditions but things didn't go to plan with Kidsgrove's decent bowling attack taking charge of proceedings and keeping the score down to a well below par total of 147 all out. Only Dave Parkinson performed with the bat with an excellent 57 but no one could keep him company for long enough to form any meaningful partnerships.

Audlem must have thought they were back in the game after Callum McIlveen removed the opening batsman without a run on the board but that was as good as it got for the hosts as a century partnership between Shaw and Highfield for the second wicket sealed their fate and proceedings were finally brought to a halt in the 31st over. Audlem's top bowler on the day was Simon Swift who bowled his 8 overs for only 21 runs and claiming 2 wickets in the process.

Sunday July 18th

On another steaming hot afternoon the Sunday team made their way to Middlewich and agreed on a 35 over game. Skipper Simon Swift lost the toss and had to inform his team that they were fielding in the oppressive conditions. Audlem's bowlers stuck to their task despite the heat and belligerent batting of their hosts to restrict them to 178 for 7 with Usman Ghani ( 3 for 37 ) and Dave Parkinson ( 3 for 21 ) again amongst the wickets.

Audlem's batting never really got going against some tidy bowling as they stuttered to 102 all out in the 33rd over with Dave Parkinson once again performing with the bat to top score with 29 and cap an excellent personal weekend .

This weekend

Audlem have only one game next weekend with the league fixture at Newcastle & Hartsill ( Sunday 1:00pm ) being rearranged to accommodate the wedding of captain & long serving player Chris Shenton the previous day.

John Wainwright ( Audlem Cricket Club )
