Audlem Community Spirit

We hope our readers have had a Happy Christmas and are replete from the hearty fare.

We thought that in the quiet time between Christmas and the New Year it was a good time to reflect on the contributions made by the many volunteers who work so hard encourage our community spirit and to the groups and businesses make this village a great place to live.

So we think of:

• Peter Kay and the work he has done to keep our footpaths open.
• Adrian Leighton for his observations on our local natural life for which he received the RHS Discretionary Award.
• All the volunteers in ADAS who help to keep our village pristine and this year won a Silver Gilt Award at the Britain in Bloom ceremony, and also make the Christmas period so festive.
• The members of ASET who staged the Party on the Park with the Dictionary of Soul and the Transport Festival in which some 250 vehicles took part together with vintage canal boats.
• The members of ADCA for the tremendous work they do to care for the elderly and those with dementia.
• The Audlem Lass Team and particularly the Wheelyboat / bus group who provide outings for the infirm and disabled within our community.
• Audlem Voices who with their dulcet tones bring beautiful music to the village.
• The many groups in the village such as Probus Club, Women's Institute, Bowling Club,Tennis and Badminton Clubs, Football from Junior to Senior and walking, cricket club, Ramblers Society and Running group.
• The Parish Council and Public hall management Committee
• The many village businesses who provide such a wide range of products and services from Chocolate to Meat, bicycles, newspapers and much more, Flowers, Groceries, Kitchenware, books and gifts to Post Office,Coffee Shops, Restaurants, Great Pubs,Overwater Marina.
• Our Local Charity Shop for its work to raise money for charity.
• Our St James Primary school who cares for our children and provides an education
• And our Churches for looking after spirit and soul.
• Our local farmers and industry for our food, products and local employment.
• Our local Medical Team from Nurses to Doctor who help us through illness

So much to offer in a comparatively small village and neighbouring hamlets.
And perhaps we should pause to remember Ralph Warburton who in the past has contributed so much to the village.
If we have not mentioned you we do apologise – please put it down to too much Christmas spirit.
