Attention all fitness freaks and fun lovers!

Audlem may soon be the fitness capital of South Cheshire as the Parish Council is in the running for a grant from the Tesco Community Fund. This is a fund which has been set up to provide grants towards community projects on green and open spaces.

The Parish Council has submitted an application to provide outdoor gym and fitness equipment on the playing field and has heard back from the Fund that the application has been accepted. It has now gone through to the next round when a shortlist of projects will be drawn up by a local panel. The grants available are for £8,000, £10,000 and £12,000.

At Monday night's meeting Councillors heard that enquiries have been made with Caloo, a company that provides and installs this type of equipment, and a site visit has taken place early in January. This had been very useful and had confirmed that the equipment could be installed on the Shroppie Fly side of the field without causing potential dangers to footballers and other users of the field.

Clearly the project is subject to being awarded a grant but, should the application be successful, there could be eight separate pieces of equipment including an air walker, a leg press, a body twist and a cycle. Some of the equipment is designed so that more than one person can use it simultaneously, meaning that up to twelve people can be exercising at any one time. The equipment is suitable for use by anyone over 1.4m (4' 7") tall and is therefore recommended to be used by adults and young adults. It is not just for the young and fit, those of us who are less supple will have fun trying out the apparatus.

The race to succeed is still at the early stages, but once we hear whether we have been successful or not, we will let you know.

If we are successful with this project, and the new Community Fitness Room (which is part of the Public Hall Annexe plans) also comes into being, then Audlem will soon become the place to have fun, get fit and keep fit.
