MakoCreate

Young people are being given the chance to get creative and try new things such as film making and computer game design.

MakoCreate has been commissioned by Cheshire East Council to deliver a three-year project offering young people, who are facing challenging circumstances, opportunities to learn new skills and find out about the different routes into creative careers.

The project, aimed at 11 to 25 year olds, will offer hands-on experience in an array of cultural, art and media, through creative roles and subjects such as:

  • Film making;
  • Animation;
  • Photography;
  • Graphic design;
  • Audio production,
  • Computer game design;
  • Music making; and
  • Creative coding.

This creative careers project has been commissioned in support of the Crewe cultural strategy. The strategy has been developed by Crewe's cultural forum and is a collaboration of more than 100 residents, organisations and businesses in Crewe.

The core working group for the forum includes representatives from Cheshire East Council, Crewe Town Council, Cheshire College, Lyceum Theatre, South Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and the YMCA Crewe.

The cultural strategy aims to support the strategic regeneration of Crewe, using the power of culture. Organisations are encouraged to work together to make efficient use of resources and to work on funding applications to organisations such as Arts Council England and National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Anyone between the ages of 11 and 25, who is facing challenging circumstances, with an interest in the creative sector and who would like to develop their creative and personal skills, is encouraged to find out more and sign up for the MakeCreate project at www.makocreate.co.uk/project/crewe-creative-careers/

Anyone interested in contributing to Crewe's cultural development is welcome to attend the next forum meeting. This is on 23 January at 5.30pm, in the upstairs room at The Hops, 8-10 Prince Albert St, Crewe, CW1 2DG.
