Anyone who has ventured round the back of the new Annexe being built behind the Public Hall will have noticed strange metal structures taking shape.
There are two elements to this – the large two-storey steel skeleton is the basis of the external stairway which will provide access to the upper floor of the Annexe. This is for use by gym members and football players and officials to get to the Community Gym and the changing rooms respectively. Gym members will be able to use this entrance to get access to the Gym without disturbing other users of the Annexe.
The lower structure along the full width of the Annexe is for the roof of the.... well, we are not quite sure – is it a patio, a loggia, a pergola or even a cloister? It's not enclosed but it has a roof and a paved floor. It will have furniture provided by a grant from Tesco's "Bags of help" Fund (see earlier story here).
Meanwhile inside the Annexe building, plastering is proceeding apace and a web of electrical and communication cables have been installed whose purpose, we hope, is understood by somebody.
The wall for the Sponsors' plaques is being prepared, and the psychedelic colours for the Youth Room decoration are being chosen.
The APHAx committee is still hoping for an opening date in mid-November – watch this space....
