We are indebted to Jon Shaw of "somewhere in Gloucestershire" for this piece.
This listing has nothing to do with me, we are Gloucestershire folk and I only came across it as our daughter is furnishing an old house in North Staffordshire.
She was keeping an eye out for things with a local provenance to the area they are in – this isn't quite close enough.
But I thought someone up there in Audlem ought to bring it home.
John Ryland Blakeman- clockmaker of Audlem. I also see that in 1878 he was also some form of local clerk but that would seem a little too early for a Parish Council, so perhaps a PCC.
Stay safe
Jon
Thank you Jon
You can see the item on the ebay site here.
This would surely be an ideal accoutrement for our Parish Council to purchase and hang on its wall – although a drawback might be that possibly it doesn't do British Summer Time.
