Almost £3,500 raised for Donna Louise

Last night we held this wonderful evening in the very warmly welcoming Lord Combermere. It was so packed I could swear the walls were bulging. We even had to raid the private quarters for seats – for such was the number who came for this Special Christmas event.

I had ordered a huge buffet for those who came and Chef Ant and his team laboured so well to produce a really splendid spread.

Huge thank you to Jo & Allan – our very wonderful hosts. I thank our lucky stars that we have such great folks as Jo and Allan here in the village – always willing to give full support and to help the community whenever called on) and such a great front of house team of ladies headed by the lovely Daisy.

The timetable was to get all to the buffet, to collect entry quiz money and then to hold the auction. Our gavel bashing star was Des Mullock. He held us all in thrall as the bidding went on.

All lots were sold and the total money raised on the night for this so deserving Hospice for children in the last days of their young lives was close on £3500!

Star auction lot was a long weekend for up to 12 in a most beautiful country house in Wales. The Quiz was great with Mike Haines and myself alternating the rounds – with the Desperate Housewives and friends team winning two of the bottles of merlot with their incisive answering.

• My very, very sincere thanks to all who so very kindly donated the lots and the raffle prizes. To those who came to support the night.
• To those who put up their hands to bid for the lots a very special thanks.
• To the Residents of Hankelow who made a collection round their Christmas tree and Hankelow Amenities for a very generous donation of £150.
• And to the wonderful couple who have done so much and who on the night gave me a cheque from an anonymous donor for £500. Such fantastic people.
• And last but no means least to May Hunter and John Cooke for all their input for the night.

How lucky we are that Audlem – and Hankelow – are such great places in which to live and to visit.

A very satisfying and very tiring but so happy a night.
