Today we carry on with our sequence of friendlies as we warm up in readiness for the strait of the season proper and get the measure of the new signings we have.
A morning a such stillness and out in my garden very early as the sun climbs up above the beech trees. So many butterflies this year, but not one sighting of a red admiral nor of a peacock. As a child I used to call them flutterbyes!
And the honey bees back in numbers as they harvest from the lavender hedges. All is quiet- apart from the jet plane high overhead as it chalks its way south to Spain and beyond. Flying pale British holiday makers to some extremely high temperatures of even 40c plus!! Going to be some sad cases of sunburn – a good few very serious burns, as they rush out into the blistering sun.
For us here in a balmy U.K... Warm but gentler.
Morning begins with a bit of a panic – we thought we were to play at Faddiley, but no – we are at home. Miscommunication...
A turn out of just enough players and that with four new signings !!
1045 and all sorted. Players on the bone hard pitch. We are in our new blue & white kit and Faddiley in their mustard yellow.
Warm and getting warmer. Referee is Richard Harris- treasurer of Faddiley team. Very hard to get anyone at this time of year.
Kev Rodgers away, so James Bebbington and Kev Mort determine the team.
1054 Kick off a tad early. Everybody very keen.
1105 They score. 0-1. A superb goal from distance.
1110 0-2. Yet another fast, well struck goal.
1120 A drinks break as temperature builds. Refreshed and off we go again.
1124 0-3. Untidy easy scrambled goal!!
1127 0-4!!!! What can I say.
1130 1-4. We score. New signing Will Cook with a fine shot.
Water bottles refreshed as they are very important. Subs played using our two men.
1210 Heat of the sun cooking my bald pate.
1215 Free kick to them. Wham bang- 1-5
Water break
1217 1-6. Men and Boys! Their class outshining us.
1235 1-7. An own goal !
1239 1-8. Game over.
And so, we close this unhappy chapter in our life. Thrashed, fileted and, as with the kit, hung out to dry!!!
Next game is the first of the season proper when we travel to the north of Northwich to play a new team to the league – Broadhurst.
