Yesterday, we reported on the Village Awards that were presented to Andrew Smith (Citizen of the Year), John Capper (Property of the Year) and to Sam Burdon of The Flower Divas (Commercial Property award).

Today, we are focussing on the reports presented at ADAS' annual general meeting on Wednesday evening in Audlem Public Hall.

Bryony Nixon described how the previous year had started with a busy Table Top Sale followed by the Chrsitmas preparations with 59 illuminated trees including the Big Tree that had been growing in Geoff & Olive Stretch's garden and how it was manouvered from there to the Square. It was a very well attend Big Switch On which saw Audlem St James' School singing on the steps of St James' church.

Better weather – and new Carols sheets – saw a much bigger turnout for the singing around the tree and over £500 was raised by the bucket collection. Crewe Brass band led the carols and The Lord Combermere again laid on warming soup.

ADAS, with Audlem Parish Council and ASET, fund the New Year's Eve fireworks.

The Spring saw displays of tulips and hyacinths join the pansies in the troughs and warmer weather was well on its way by the time of the Music & Arts Festival which ADAS helps support financially. A July Fashion Show with Fizz Fashion made over £200.

A new venture was Saturday Night is Music Night with Crewe Brass and Simply Allsorts which saw St James' Church filled with voices and brass. This, ADAS hope, can be repeated in 2016.

Audlem in Bloom

Bryony reported on AIB's year which produced fantastic results with the flower displays in pink and white which developed in summer into hot pink and white with pinks of pansies and whites of flips moving into hotter colours with pink and white surfinias along with bacopa, nemesia, verbena and salvias planted throughout the village.

At the North West in Bloom prize giving at the end of October, AIB were awarded with the discretionary award for Environmental Quality and another Silver Gilt Medal.

Bryony thanked all those that support and contribute with time for the superb displays.

ADAS committee

Rachel Hulse left and Mike Otter joined the committee and Ann Wollaston (see photo) retired after 20ish years on the ADAS team.

Another busy year is starting and Bryony appealed for as many to join in and they hope 2016 will see the Open Gardens weekend in May as well as the events described above being repeated. AIB will be more involved with school building bug hotels at the conservation area as well planting with the Brownies, Guides, Cubs and Scouts in the Spring.

There also plans to overhaul an overgrown bed down by the canal as a Remembrance bed.

Bryony concluded with the Financial report and thanked Andrew Bradshaw for auditing the accounts without charge. There had been a shortfall of £500 in the year which will be addressed with a better envelopes system. ADAS's investments did well with an increase in valuation of £500.

Audlem Medical & Nursing Trust

David Latchford reported on the Trust's activities and described their work.

The main contribution this year had been £1,100 worth of new chairs for the Medical Practice with other costs consisting of servicing previously bought medical equipment. There had been recent donations of around £500 bringing the fund up to about £2,500.

The evening concluded with drinks and nibbles which were much appreciated by all there.
