ADAS Christmas planning

Over the weekend most of the members of the ADAS committee worked very hard in preparing the 2010 Christmas displays for the village.

Bill Consterdine and myself were out very early trimming trees to fit brackets. Julie Hesketh, Ann Wollaston, Bryony Nixon and Helen Waters took on the task of dressing the small trees with lights whilst Russ Waters transported them to the village.

The big tree arrived in the Square, brought in by Richard Furber. Jonathan Gleave along with Mike Haines and Pete Townsend had it up and in place by 10.30am.

From then on we worked all the day in getting the big tree dressed with masses of lights and the new big trees connected up at Broadways, School Lane and the Canal Bridge.

Phil Baker was the mastermind on all the electrics and I was very ably helped by David Cooper – fiancé of Monique, our famous "Iron Man Athlete" – who very kindly volunteered many hours of his Saturday.

David Latchford could not be with us as he was stuck at Birmingham Airport following the plane crash there.

Mike Haines and Pete Townsend (Pete driving the Cherry picker ) slaved right up to 10.00pm attaching the multitude of lights. All in all masses of man hours by ADAS and our very welcome volunteers who all put in a finger numbing exercise in a great community effort. A total of 87 man hours was given freely and with good humour. The Lord C again came up trumps with soup and hot coffee.

We hope that all will like what we, ADAS, have done. You can see the result when our tree sponsors, Trixie and Norman Bonell, switch all on this coming Thursday at 6.30pm.
