Eight intrepid occasional cyclists mustered in Audlem on Sunday morning, all dressed for the worst that the February weather could throw at us and it did.

We encountered floods, snow, hail, sleet, rain, icy gales and even sunshine. All taken in our stride at a gentle pace. No cats and dogs, but we all had to dismount our cycles to let a Shire horse and rider go by on one of the lanes. Dingle Lane Ford was impressive with the swollen brook spilling over the footway to one side of the deep ford,

That successfully traversed, we took the lane past semi ancient woodland – "Threepers Drumble" – which in a few weeks will be carpeted with wood anemones.

Our destination was soon upon us and we located the 3 cycle racks for our trusty two wheeled steeds at Bridgemere Garden World. Once fortified by generous helpings of cake, sandwiches and coffee we were well prepared for the return journey, against the wind, passing more flooded fields and swollen streams, to make it safely back in Audlem in early afternoon.

A bracing cycle ride was enjoyed by all.

Our next scheduled ride will be to Market Drayton on Sunday the 11th of March stopping for sustenance at one of the local hostelries, when we hope for a little better weather.

Calling all occasional cyclists come and join our monthly rides, enjoy socialising and improve your fitness.... provided we don't have too many cakes!
