A529 to Market Drayton

A reminder that the A529 to Market Drayton is still closed as extensive road repairs lasting up to five weeks continue south of Adderley.

We can only assume the work includes major resurfacing meaning that once open, all three main roads from Shropshire will feature first class road surfaces in contrast to the less than perfect surfaces that welcome drivers to Cheshire East.

A visitor to Audlem at the weekend commented as soon as he arrived about the excellent stretch of road out of Woore on the A525 that continues until the border with Cheshire East – although drivers this weekend will have noted new 30mph and 40mph restrictions are now in operation for part of that stretch.

The A525/A529 from Whitchurch is also well surfaced, although to be fair part of that does continue to the junction with the A525 near Burleydam which is just in Cheshire East. Once you turn to Audlem on to the A525, however, the road is patched up in many stretches and reaches its worst surface on the Whitchurch Road slope up into the village itself.

Maybe we should all keep our fingers crossed that Cheshire East is successful in its bid to host the Tour of Britain cycle race and the A525 is on the route of the race. Any road that includes the Tour normally sees a resurface as side roads to the south of Audlem in Shropshire did a couple of years ago when the Tour of Britain carefully skirted around Cheshire East.
