20 Years of Audlem and District Probus Club

The Audlem and District Probus Club's year runs from the end of March and this year the Club has been celebrating its 20th year Anniversary of when it was founded in April 1995.

The Club was sponsored by Derek Rooke, who was at that time President of Nantwich Rotary Club, as one of his Rotary projects. He and Humphrey Parker invited some eighteen people in Audlem to a meeting at the Lord Combermere on the 6th April, to discuss the interest in setting up a Probus Club in the village.

This met with considerable enthusiasm and so Audlem and District Probus Club was formed and officers elected at a second meeting on 27th April 1995 and quickly a membership of 25 from many walks of life, was established. This has grown over the 20 years into a vibrant Club of some 87 members.

The key to the Club's success has always been:

a) Its Speaker programme

The Club has a strong range of speakers twice monthly covering subjects from many aspects of life and of interest to the majority of members.

b) Its Social Programme

The Club has a very active social programme, from social evenings, lunches, visits to places and companies of interest and an annual holiday of 4/5 days each year.

Our Club owes much of its success to the people over the years who have been prepared to undertake the roles of Social and Speaker Secretaries and their commitment to organising these events for members.

An Anniversary lunch for members and guests was held last April and to end the year of celebrations a special social evening is taking place on the 4th March at which there will be an opportunity for members to reminisce about past social occasions and be entertained by the prestigious Audlem Voices.

We look forward to the next 20 years!
